at the decompression party

January 24, 2011

This Saturday, to my great pleasure, a friend who lived in the same Katimavik house as my boyfriend David (and who stayed with my mother for two weeks when the group was stayed for a trimester in Shelburne) came to visit me in Toronto. The last time Dave and I saw her was after she’d hitched from Ottawa to Toronto, to catch a plane out to Reno for Burning Man. I had hoped that she might send me a letter from the experience, but after coming back all she had to say was wow- and that I really had to go and see it for myself.

Going to Burning Man just isn’t in the cards this year, but I did get to have a taste when the 4 of us (Melo and her boyfriend Ayube, Dave, and I) went to the Toronto Decompression party, which is like a comedown party for Burning Man- something to tide you over until the summer festival comes round again.

Its too bad I was feeling too tired to really enjoy all the spectacles of this grown up rave. There were multiple party rooms and dance floors, performances and art installations, and so many fabulous costumes. There was even a most fantastic bouncy castle. However, after we got separated with our dear francophone friends, we ended up in “the womb”, an igloo shaped structure where people went to escape from the party intensity to chill. These are some pictures we drew at the event, the last is a drawing Dave made of me.
