June is for Indie

June 2, 2010

Here are my picks this month for Toronto shows:

The Order of Good Cheer and their talented group of friends try to recapture the original orgiastic spirit of Samuel de Champlain’s L’Ordre Des Bons Temps each Wednesday this month. $5 at the Piston. If you’re into the Arts and Crafts label, you’ll love this residency.

Basia Bulat with The Wilderness of Manitoba (talk about a double feature) – Phoenix – Friday June 4th – $16.50

Tune-Yards – Sunday June 13th – Horseshoe Tavern – $12

The New Pornographers– Tuesday June 15th – $28

Girl Talk – Sound Academy – Friday June 18th – 26.50

NXNE Sloan – Yonge and Dundas Square – Friday June 18th – Free

Pavement + Broken Social Scene – Olympic Island – Saturday June 19th – $57.50

NXNE CBC Radio 3 Sirius Showcase – Horseshoe Tavern -Saturday June 19th – $15 or NXNE wristband

Crave: Wet Your Appetite, a pre-pride dance party featuring Lucas Silvera of The Cliks, a performance by Dance Yourself to Death, and Coco LaCreme. Hosted by Sasha Van Bon Bon – Phoenix – Friday June 25th – $10 at the door

I’m sure there’ll be a few more that I’ll discover when I take the time to plan my NXNE experience, but these are the concerts I’m itching to go to this month. There’s also a rad Francophone showcase happening June 10th-12th at the Harbourfront centre, which best of all, is being presented free of charge.

If I had to pick one show this month I really want to go to most this month, it’s Broken Social Scene on the island, so let me leave you with this drawing I made with some while having an impromptu drawing party with some unlikely friends to their latest album Forgiveness Rock Record.
